Many people saw the Gold Line as a way to stave off the oncoming tide of the 710 Extension. They figured, "If we let them build the Metro, they won't build the freeway." I guess they were wrong. People aren't rushing to ride the metro, and it isn't keeping the people who want the freeway from pushing.

Anyway, we've got a Metro. And we've got squealing, and horns, and noise, noise, noise. We've got 22 hours a day of it. And it keeps people who have houses set up against the tracks awake. These people have tried everything. Double windows. Tall walls. Talking to MTA to get the Gold Line to slow down, to stop blowing their horns, to stop ringing the crossing gate bells after 11 p.m. But they will only do so much. And so here we are.
